About Mayor Woodward:

"Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward is a champion for public safety, housing, homelessness, economic development, and mental health advancements for Spokane. She is a convenor and collaborator who engages broad perspectives to bring balance and practicality to meet community expectations.

During her first term, Mayor Woodward’s work with local, state, and federal community and governmental partners has brought together resources to prioritize community safety and wellness in a time of extreme division. She has embraced community expectations of support, accountability, and advancements with a practical and orderly approach that has drawn attention and support nationwide.

In prioritizing public safety, Mayor Woodward put more officers in neighborhoods by opening police precincts in East Central and downtown and implemented a new police staffing model that makes the department more visible and engaged with the neighborhoods they serve. Under Mayor Woodward’s leadership, the City entered into a regional partnership that not only is more efficient, but is also more cost-effective in sending help when people call with fire and emergency medical needs. Mayor Woodward’s efforts in working on the homelessness issue has resulted in partnerships that have added more than 500 consistent spaces for individuals and families without housing to get out of the weather and access services. Her efforts to streamline permitting processes and a nationally recognized pilot program that adds new home-ownership options have come during a period where new residential construction has reached new levels.

Mayor Woodward has twice been invited to attend the prestigious Yale Mayors and CEO College and led the unanimous passage by the U.S. Conference of Mayors three separate resolutions supporting additional federal funding locally for community policing, mental health, and fentanyl prevention and enforcement. She established a Mental Health Task Force of regional behavioral health professionals to address needs for youth and sits on the SAFE Task Force for fentanyl awareness and education.
